Southside of the Spey
Saturday the 8th of June is World Gin Day.
We teamed up with Scott at The Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore to create a gin-based cocktail for a Speyside Summer (can be drunk in rain or shine).
A traditional Southside cocktail is essentially a gin version of a classic mojito. We wanted to take that inspiration and add some more Scottish flavour to it.
Our neighbours, Kinrara Gin Distillery make delicious juniper dry gin using local produce and botanicals foraged on their estate. The limited-edition hibiscus gin has a delicate floral flavour and comes in a really gorgeous bottle.
The Scottish Fruit Company’s raspberry cordial replaces the more traditional gomme-syrup and adds a sharper, more aromatic sweetness. The second twist in this cocktail is Braes o’ Gowrie Sparkling Elderflower which adds a lovely freshness and a really summery vibe.
An easy gin-based cocktail to enjoy with friends on summer days.
Southside of the Spey:
35ml Kinrara Hibiscus gin
20ml raspberry cordial
25ml Fresh Lime Juice
8-10 Mint leaves
crushed ice
sparkling elderflower
Method:
Begin by crushing the ice, a rolling pin works well. Into a tall glass, squeeze 25mls of fresh lime juice, next add 35mls of Kinrara Hibiscus gin to each glass. Pour in 20mls of raspberry cordial followed by a scoop of crushed ice. Give everything a bit of a swizzle before adding the sparkling elderflower. Top with more crushed ice and if you have space a little more of the sparkling elderflower.
Garnish with a sprig of mint.
