Cairngorms Nature Big Weekend - Events at Rothiemurchus

May 10th - 13th 2019 is all about celebrating what makes the Cairngorms National Park special.

Here at Rothiemurchus, we have two very special events that will open your eyes to the secrets of the forest and reveal what trees can tell us about the past.

Secrets of the Forest with Zeki Basan

Discover fascinating secrets of the forest. With early spring shoots beginning to unfurl, there is plenty to observe and learn about. Sharing his knowledge of ancestral, medicinal and culinary uses of plants and trees, Zeki will show you how to make cordage from young nettles, create light from tree sap and the joy of a cup of pine needle tea. With him, you will take a short walk but a long journey into our natural world.

Tales from the Trees with Dr. Rob Wilson

Trees can provide a profound, rich story of both climate and environmental change. Join Dr Rob Wilson Senior Lecturer in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of St Andrews as he explores how the information stored in the rings of trees shows the climate changes in this region over the last millennium. Find out about his continuing work in this field and how Scotland is just one piece in a much larger, more complex puzzle of climate change that will affect us all over the coming decades.
