December is here and the Holidays are just around the corner!

Aviemore, nestled in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, is famous for it’s Winter Sports but there are lots of other great activities too.

You might not be able to plan for the Scottish weather, but don’t worry there is always fun to be had at Rothiemurchus. A year-round playground just 5 minutes from Aviemore we offer a variety of activities suitable for the whole family, not to mention a cosy cafe and well-stocked Farm Shop…

Clay Target Shooting

The Clay Target Shooting ground is open every day, except Christmas day, suitable for ages 12+ it is a great activity for complete beginners right up to experienced shooters. Our friendly and knowledgeable instructors will give you a thorough safety demonstration and guide you through the various stations explaining how best to hit the clays at each one.

Quad Bike Treks

You could be forgiven for thinking of quad trekking as a summer activity; in fact, it’s open year-round and great fun in rain, shine or even snow!  Wrap up warm and get ready for an inspiring adventure as your experienced guide leads you on a trek through the pine forest.  Stop to admire the views of the surrounding winter mountain landscape as you go.  Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife and look out for our herd of Hairy Highland Coos – they too are out and about whatever the weather!

Ranger-led Experiences

Our friendly and knowledgeable Ranger team lead a number of experiences that will take you behind the scenes and introduce you to some of our favourite locals! The Hairy Coo Safari is a great opportunity to get closer and discover more about the famous Highland Cow, and you should be able to get plenty of photos as they come right up to the fence. Feed the Deer tours give you the chance to get up close to our Red Deer hinds who will be delighted to see you and eat right out your hand, it’s a pretty special experience.

TreeZone

An exhilarating, outdoor, aerial adventure course set amongst the Pine Trees of Rothiemurchus. Suitable for ages 7+ Treezone will test your balance as you navigate 35 obstacles before zip-wiring back to earth. Treezone consists of two courses the ‘Tree Creeper’ course is up to 20 feet off the ground and involves 12 different fun crossings. The ‘Buzzard’ course ranges from 20 to 40 feet off the ground and offers 23 testing challenges. Participants under 1.3m tall will complete the Tree Creeper circuit twice instead of moving on to the Buzzard course.

Shopping

Whether you are looking for food, drink or gifts you will be guaranteed to find something a little bit special at Rothiemurchus. Our Farm Shop stocks home-grown produce such as sweet heather honey, velvety venison and our famed Highland beef. As well as a great range from local and specialist suppliers including local gins and beer, artisan chocolate, a fantastic cheese counter and a huge selection of jams and chutneys. At Christmas time there are pre-made hampers filled with delicious goodies or you can make one of your own! The Old School Shop has a wonderful range of gifts to suit a variety of interests and ages, fun festive ornaments and a great selection of cards.

The Druie

After you’ve done one of the many activities or walked around stunning Loch an Eilein, head to the Druie Cafe to warm up and have a well-deserved treat. Our fabulous baker produces very tempting cakes, scones and tray bakes and there are often gluten-free and vegan options available too.
