Rothiemurchus Round-Up
The school summer holidays are nearly here which means Spring is definitely over!
Here’s a quick look back at our favourite photos from what can best be described as a varied Spring at Rothiemurchus.
1. Hairy Coos and Fluffy Calves!
The first of our Highlander calves were born in March and for some it was a rather snowy welcome!
2. Return of the Osprey
By the end of March, the Osprey were beginning to return to the Cairngorms and we have had some fantastic photos taken from our hide so far.
3. Easter Holidays
After a snowy start to the month, April turned warm and sunny and lots of families turned out for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Loch an Eilein.
4. Cairngorms Nature Big Weekend
We were delighted to welcome Zeki Basan and Dr Rob Wilson to Rothiemurchus as part of Cairngorm Natures Big Weekend.
5. Springwatch
The popular BBC programme followed the success of last years Winterwatch with a return to the Cairngorms National Park and we spent three weeks cheering on baby birds and discovering more about the many creatures that call this spectacular place home. Gabrielle Flinn from the RSPB’s Rare Invertebrates in the Cairngorms project told us about the endangered Kentish Glory Moth.
6. Down on the Farm
The team behind the farm here at Rothiemurchus are dedicated to ensuring the highest environmental and welfare standards are met.
Grant, our farmer, was delighted that once again Rothiemurchus passed inspection from Quality Meat Scotland and Scottish Quality Crops with flying colours.
7. Rothiemurchus Fishery
The fishery has been expanding the experiences on offer to include I Caught My First Fish, aimed at encouraging youngsters to try fishing. But the photo that really caught everyone’s attention on social media was from the new Guided Pike fishing…
The fishery is also hosting a fun day for families this Saturday – 22nd June 2019.
8. Hairy Coo Antics
People on Instagram loved this photo of Harry who appears to be trying out a new look… Hay-er extensions! And Kevin is definitely going through his teenage phase, in fact he has developed a taste for quad bikes…
