The leaves are changing colour and the air is crisper, Autumn is here!
The September long weekends are a great opportunity to do things together as a family and at Rothiemurchus there is something to suit all ages and interests.
Family Fishing Weekends:
On the 21st and 22nd of September and 28th to 30th of September, Rothiemurchus Fishery is hosting special taster sessions. Instructor-led bait fishing sessions will run at 10am, 12pm and 2pm and can be booked in advance. There will also be self-guided bait fishing taster sessions throughout the day. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn something new and maybe even the start of a new hobby!
Activities for under 12s
There are lots of activities that you can do with under 12’s at Rothiemurchus. The Ranger-led activities such as Hairy Coo Safari and Feed the Deer tours are suitable for all ages and are a favourite of children and adults alike! Pony Trekking has Wee Womble rides for ages 3 to 8 and the Beginners Pony Trekking or Rothiemurchus by Horseback are open to ages 8+ depending on their level of experience. For children who love climbing trees, Treezone (7+ and 110cm+) is an exciting adventure playground which is suspended from wires high up in the pine forests of Rothiemurchus. Budding Robin Hoods can learn the ancient skill of Archery (8+) while for those that enjoy being on the water there is River Tubing (8+). Cycling is a great way to explore Rothiemurchus, enjoy the choice of three hand-picked stunning circular routes, suitable for all the family. Bikes can be hired from the In Your Element Pavilion opposite Treezone and there are children’s bikes, adult’s bikes and trailers and tag-a-longs available.
Pony Treks will be available from the 21st of September.
Activities for over 12s
As well as the activities listed above, families with children aged 12+ can join a Quad Bike Trek led by experienced and fully trained professional guides. You will explore a network of tracks and off-road trails through the magnificent ancient pine woodland and across the heather moorland with spectacular views and past our fold of Highland coos. There are plenty of photo opportunities so don’t forget to bring a camera!
Rothiemurchus has one of the best Clay Shooting facilities in the UK. Our instructors provide expert one-to-one tuition giving you the confidence to really enjoy this exciting sport. Lighter weight guns and low recoil cartridges are available so that everyone can have a great time.
‘White Water’ River Tubing is the ultimate white water river sport, you are close to the action as you shoot through powerful gorges on our specially designed river tubes. Expert guides and all the best safety gear keep you safe as you hang onto the handles running the rapids, jumping into deep pools and shoot at high speed through the river sculpted rock features on this steep highland river.
