Discover Loch an Eilein's Smugglers Sauna, where the breathtaking surroundings enhance your wellness experience. Enjoy the rejuvenating combination of sauna heat and cold-water immersion, known to refresh both body and mind. Located close to the shore of Loch an Eilein, the Smugglers Sauna, crafted by local enthusiast Zeki Basan from a converted horse box, offers a unique retreat. Reflecting the area's history of whisky smuggling, it's a testament to craftsmanship and heritage. Upon arrival, our host will provide a thorough briefing on sauna use and safety, ensuring your comfort throughout. The Smugglers Sauna can be booked for parties of 1-4 people.
Please refer to the need to know section for more information. Pre-booking is essential at least 14hrs before hand due to set up time. Any last minute availability will be displayed at the car park at Loch an Eilein and bookings can be made in person with our Sauna Team.
AGE
Minimum age 16. All under 18's must be accompanied by an adult over 21 years old. No max age!
MIN/MAX NUMBERS
Minimum 1, Maximum 4 per time slot. Due to Health & Safety, we are unable to accommodate more than 4 people on any one time slot.
PARTICIPANTS TO TAKE
Swim suit / swim shorts, 2 towels each, slip on footwear, at least 1ltr drinking water. Please note that all hanging jewellery must be removed before entering the Sauna.
EXPERIENCE
None required however staying in the sauna for no longer than 20 minutes at a time (we recommend 5-15 min sessions depending on experience).
SAUNA RULES
Alcohol, drugs & nudity are not permitted in the Rothiemurchus Smugglers Sauna.
The stove is exclusively used by staff - at no times can you touch, put logs in the fire, open/close the stove door or move the stove vents. Please ask the sauna operator to make changes to the stove.
Any hanging jewellery must be removed before entering the sauna to prevent the risk of burning.
Sauna etiquette must be adhered to at all times. This includes;
Washing feet in the bucket provided before entering the sauna
Sitting on a towel at all times for hygiene purposes & to soak up your sweat
Gently pouring water using the ladle from the back of the rocks to the front to avoid getting burnt by the steam; do not dump water
Only pouring the provided 'sauna water' on hot rocks and nothing else
Getting changed within your booked time slot if you'd like to use the changing room.
MEETING POINT
From Loch an Eilein car park, please make your way towards the Loch and turn left. The Sauna is sign posted.

50 minutes. 5 sessions per day
