The dog-friendly guide to Rothiemurchus

Three dog off-lead areas, walks galore and a dog-friendly cafe with water bowls,
dog treats and indoor and outdoor seating: there’s so much for your four-legged friend (and you!)
to love about Rothiemurchus.

Us humans are lucky to share this land with the many animal and bird species that have chosen
to make Rothiemurchus their home.
Here’s our guide to enjoying Rothiemurchus with your dog in tow, while keeping wildlife safe
for future generations to enjoy as much as we do.

Dog-friendly eating and drinking

There’s no need to leave your four-legged friend outside The Barn cafe, as we love dogs – and they LOVE our woodburning stove. The menu changes frequently but always includes cakes, daily specials, warming soup and sandwiches. You can pick up dog treats here, as well as in the Farm Shop next door. Check opening hours.

Out on walks

Don’t forget that some path users may feel intimidated by dogs. So no matter how friendly your four-legged family member is, let them run free in one of our three designated dog off-lead areas and otherwise keep them at heel or on a short lead. Using a short lead also helps to keep your dog from disturbing ground-nesting birds and farm animals.

Please always clear up after your dog. Dog waste can be a hazard for wildlife and people. Bagging and binning, or taking it home, helps to keep everyone safe.

Dog off-lead areas

We have three lovely dog off-lead areas at Rothiemurchus. You’ll find them opposite the Triangle Car Park, at Loch an Eilein and next to Rothiemurchus Camp and Caravan Park. Aviemore Dog Park is just down the road, too, where you can book a private slot.
